I’m a North Carolina girl. I grew up on sweet tea and barbecue. I don’t eat meat anymore, but when I saw this Target serving platter, I fell. in. love.

But here’s the thing. I’m such a cheapo, I almost always refuse to buy something from Target unless it’s on second markdown clearance. That’s right, first markdown isn’t good enough. Luckily, I live close enough that I can stop in whenever to check the sales. And naturally, when it went on sale, it was GONE. Cue (pun intended) the sad music.

This Saturday we stopped in after going out to dinner and to my delight, the piggy platter was there! On sale! So I grabbed it for $10 and ran all the way home, crying wee wee wee.

This Target serving platter was too special to put food on though. Oh no, I had bigger plans for it. See that empty spot above the stove?

I’ve been waiting for a girl like you piece of casual art to hang. Something that can tolerate the abuse of spaghetti sauce and olive oil splatters (I basically cook like the Swedish Chef).

I used a few 3M Command strips – two with velcro, one plain adhesive (because that’s what I had, man) – to stick it to the tile without damaging anything.

I pressed the plate to the wall for 60 seconds or so. It feels stable and well-stuck, but part of me always fears it will crash down in the middle of the night.

In what way have you used an oddball item for non-traditional decorating? Do you troll the Target aisles looking for good sales? How cute is the Threshold line?!

  1. I’ve been eyeing this platter, but it seemed like it would be such a shame to use it. Putting a slab of meat on it clutters up that cute design. Love the idea of putting this in the space above your stove. Looks amazing!

Right! It’s entirely too cute to only bring out every once in a while and cover it in food. I like the beef cuts one too.
