Sometimes it feels like yesterday, sometimes it feels like ten years ago. Last weekend, we celebrated our first wedding anniversary.

Great things have happened in our lives recently and I’m happy I get to share those experiences with my husband. I’m so lucky to have someone so supportive, calm, reassuring and obliging in my life. That’s what it’s all about, right? Someone who is always there, someone who is unconditionally good to you, someone you can count on – because they want to be there, to be good to you, to be counted on. I don’t expect it. It’s just there. And that’s what makes me so lucky. *sniffle sniffle* Is someone cutting an onion?

We celebrated the weekend with an awesome dinner with – brace yourselves – my family! Haha. Me, Ryan, my parents and brother stuffed ourselves at a great Indian restaurant in Raleigh, then saw Gravity in 3D (it was entertaining!).

On Sunday, we made brunch and exchanged gifts. We opted to do traditional anniversary gifts, this year being paper. Ryan remembered me oohing and ahhing over Domino at a bookstore once, so that was my present! His gift was abstract. It’s a print from Etsy. I’ll give you a minute to figure it out. … … … Got it? No? He didn’t either, and he’s a huge fan of this TV show. … Still nothing? It’s a representation of The Simpsons characters! Haha. And no, it didn’t come with a cheat sheet, so we’re stumped on some of them.

As for brunch, we obviously had to eat the top of our wedding cake that we had saved for an entire year! Haha. In the freezer, it was wrapped in foil and inside a plastic freezer bag. I moved it to the fridge on Friday to let to start thawing.

And – surprise! – it was actually good. A bit on the dry side, but that’s to be expected. The woman that made our cake actually does complimentary first anniversary cakes, so we also had delicious moist cake, haha.

On Sunday afternoon, we both volunteered at the Pittsboro Pepper Festival. Our task? Writing the names of all the restaurants on chalkboards!

A non-profit hosts the festival and restaurants – like, really great restaurants, including the only two AAA Five Diamond restaurants in the state – from all over the Triangle area participate, serving pepper-filled dishes. The entry ticket gets you an all-you-can-eat pass, but volunteering got us free entry into the festival, so after our shift helping set up, we dove right into the fiery dishes. We bumped into my coworker and her aunt, so we had nice company as we sampled pepper-infused vodka, pepper whip cream (!!!), goat cheese stuffed mini peppers, chicken-fried pork belly with peppers…oh my.

Not to mention, it was a gorgeous day – just like our wedding!

Similarly to the same weekend last year, the next day there was a miserable cold snap and it hasn’t stopped raining since. I’m serious. Since last Monday, it has rained every day. It’s put quite a hiccup in some of my projects. Harumph.

Crossing fingers for a dry day, and soon!
