This week I realized I was over the halfway hump with this pregnancy. Wow! Only 19 more weeks to go! quickly turned to Wow. Nineteen more weeks to go. I’m not complaining. I’ve had a relatively easy pregnancy. But 40 weeks is long time to feel bloated, fatigued and physically limited.
I saw a clip of Kim Kardashian on Ellen last week. Part of their exchange went like this:
“The pregnancy, I wouldn’t really wish that upon anyone. Anyone,” Kim said.
“Women who say that it’s a beautiful thing I would thinkā¦” Ellen commented.
“They are lying. They are lying to you. I’m telling you,” Kim replied. “Kourtney said that, my mom said that. I was literally giving birth and I looked at my mom and I said ‘I’m going to get you a medal. You deserve everything.’”
I connected so much with that statement. Since this is my first pregnancy, I don’t really know what to expect. I have a suspicion that the end result – our child, the relief, the surge of love – will sprinkle everything from the whole 40 weeks in fairy dust and make it seem magical. I mean, it is magical. But it’s also a weird, gross science experiment happening in my abdomen.
I’ve derailed this post. On to what the people want: bump progress photos! Below: six weeks.
I didn’t take any photos between week six and now. I didn’t start showing until week 15, and since then, the belly kind of crept up on me. But now, BAM! Tummy everywhere.
I didn’t realize my stomach had horizontally passed my boobs until I took these pictures. Oy.
Symptom stuff:
- Weight gain: 8 pounds
- Morning sickness: None, though I did feel crummy on Sunday and lost my dinner. The magic of pregnancy!
- Cravings: None. But my appetite has revved up.
- Other symptoms: I have to pee fairly often. My lower back hurts after I do housework.
- Kicks: Mostly mid-morning and early in the evening. Can’t feel them externally yet.
I’m aiming to keep this photo series up every two weeks. Let’s see how big this science experiment gets!
