We got a new area rug for the guest room. Officially our first area rug purchase. I feel like such a grown up!

I mentioned the rug last week. It’s from Joss & Main. It’s 5′ x 7′ 6″ and was $213.

The rug hunt was interesting. It’s really difficult to buy something this big that you can’t see or touch beforehand. It’s a gamble with the quality and the color depiction on the screen (I’m happy to report neither were an issue once we got the rug). Also, online selections are super overwhelming because there are so many choices.

This one won me over because:

  1. 100% wool and hand-tufted (durable)
  2. The care instructions called for normal care (whereas many other rugs said “vacuum without beater” or “professional cleaning only” – uh, yeah right)
  3. The pile (thickness) was low. Not a flatweave, not a shag carpet.
  4. $200 for a wool rug isn’t bad

It’s very much haphazardly placed now. I moved it in by myself and tried to wiggle it under the furniture, but quickly gave up. Once I take the bed out to paint it (hopefully this weekend in the nice weather!!), we’ll have space to properly straighten it out. I’d like for it to go under the bed by a few inches.

The size of the rug gives you an idea of how small the bedroom is. I think this room is 9′ 6″ x 10′. The wall with the window is the longer wall (though 6″ hardly makes a difference). With a mere three pieces of furniture, it seems like we have a lot crammed in there. This is why organizing that darn closet is so important!

Now we really need to get some curtains up. It’s looking mighty bare. And I totally need to ditch the old Pottery Barn shams. I mean, I have shams that at least match the pintucked bedding. Why haven’t I gotten on that?!

I’m working* on hanging some prints on that broad, blank wall. (*Staring at them and hoping they’ll attach themselves to the wall)

Pretty happy with the purchase so far. It’s still shedding like crazy every time we vacuum it, but from what I understand, that will subside.

Do you have a favorite rug source? HomeGoods? RugsUSA? Or do you just go where the deals take you?
